Dancesport Academy held our annual student showcase this past Sunday, October 16. WOW! Between the amazing and supportive crowd and the great performances from all of our dancers both amateur and professional, we couldn’t have asked for a better show!

This has prompted me to ask what makes these showcases the highlight of each year?

This year, for the first time, we added a charity that proceeds from our performance would benefit called the Interfaith Hospitality Network –Mainline. I truly believe that this increased our spectator attendance and helped to create a positive and energized audience for our performers to interact with. We hope to continue to foster this good will in the future.

DSA is a community of dancers, and a kind of “second family” for many of us, however, between lessons, balancing our regular lives and differing schedules, we may not get to see our friends dancing or otherwise until the showcase comes around. It is somewhat a happy reunion for everyone.

For me, one of the best things about showcases at Dancesport is that we hold them in the stunning Goodhart Theater at Bryn Mawr College in Bryn Mawr, PA. The beautiful ‘old world’ building coupled with the modern and professionally equipped stage (and crew) allow for a perfect backdrop for each dance whether it is a Rumba, Cha Cha, Jive, or Waltz.

I got several compliments from spectators that the dedication our staff has towards the students and the pure joy that all of the performers exuded was palpable during the show. A true testament to how much of what we do is expressed nonverbally. Isn’t that what dancing is all about? Expressing things we cannot find the words for? Score for DSA!

As everyone recovers and reflects from this past weekend, I hope that you will feel proud of your accomplishments and energized to begin working towards new dance goals. Most of all, never stop moving!

Until next time!
